To celebrate its 21st birthday with its manufacturers and channel partners, RGB Communications is hosting a technology showcase on Wed 17 and Thurs 18 October at its Hungerford base.
The showcase will feature the recently announced additions to RGB’s distribution portfolio the Pakedge Device & software range of high wireless networking products and ClearOne’s suite of software-based HD video system, Collaborate.
“Back in 1991 when RGB first started trading from the utility room of a small cottage in Wiltshire, little did we think that despite one or two ups and downs, losing several key vendors along the way and not to mention a double dip recession, we would still be here in 2012 and doing rather well!” said Gordon Innocent, RGB’s founder and chairman.
“There was no grand master plan back in 1991, not even a five year plan. I just wanted to make enough money so that I didn’t have to get a proper job again!” continued Innocent. “But what I did want to do was to ensure that RGB became a distributor known for providing a good service to its channel partners by, in those early days, helping them to connect projectors to computers. We achieved both.”
In 1991, there were still lots of different types of computer signals to interface with and AV could be regarded as a bit of a black art.
“We never wanted to be a jack of all trades and master of none, so currently RGB represents only 20 brands. Nor did we want to represent more than one manufacturer in each product group. Our aim was, and still is, to give our manufacturers the focus they deserve whilst focussing ourselves on a manageable group of products. It’s that focus that has enabled us to grow and maintain our reputation as a true technical, value add distributor,” explained Innocent.
“Our goal was to recruit, train and keep good staff who could deliver what RGB as a business promises. In the main we have achieved that. As with all businesses, people come and go but I am are very happy to say that currently, out of the 28 people we have, eight have been with us for more than five years and a further eight for more than ten. Not wishing to name names Mark Ryan, our technical manager, has been with us since 1992!” said Innocent.
RGB’s Technology Showcase will also feature Savant control systems for the AV market, Barco’s range of 3 chip, RLM business projectors and the latest products from Canon and NEC, ClearOne’s audio conferencing systems, Revolabs wireless microphones, Middle Atlantic racks, Premier Mounts and Kramer’s connectivity systems.
Any channel partners who have not already registered to attend the Product Showcase (17, 18 October, 09.30-17.00 each day) should call +44 (0)1488 73366 and ask for Kate Wilson to confirm a place.
