Creative Technology installed 22 Panasonic 20k projectors (PT-DZ21K and PT-DS20K) for the opening and closing ceremonies of the London 2012 Olympic Games.
CT’s director of special projects, Scott Burges reckons “the 20k projectors are a lot smaller and lightweight and use less power, saving over four tonnes of carbon compared with similar projectors.”
In addition, 59 Productions used 20 Catalyst media servers to handle creative content at the opening ceremony, in concert with eight Avolite Immersion (AI) systems feeding LED screens on the roof.
There were three HD camera channels for lighting and preview and a full HD camera system supplied by Sony. In addition, there were three more camera channels and a Grass Valley 2ME vision mixer as part of the broadcast camera system used to add shots to the LED screens.
The stadium featured four large, 20m x 7m Panasonic LED screens, based on Spider 30, showing video and camera sequences.
