Dealers have been instructed to fit the component to all ActivBoard +2 boards. A letter, sent to AV by an unnamed source, was posted to dealers warning them that ‘exceptional circumstances when inappropriately used’ caused the ActivBoard +2 Version 3 height adjustable system to raise off from the mounting brackets. The letter describes the ‘exceptional circumstances’ as such: ‘If an object is placed under the whiteboard while the remote control is continually pressed down there is the possibility that the ActivBoard could fall away from the system.’

Promethean has said this set of circumstances has an ‘extremely low probability of occurrence’. An additional letter was sent to dealers to inform schools they ‘would benefit and enhance the safety of these systems if an additional component was fitted to prevent the possibility of a board being fouled by any items that might obstruct it when its height is being adjusted using the remote control unit.’

‘We remain confident that, when used in the correct fashion, the AB+2 Version 3 adjustable system is perfectly safe for classroom use,’ said Ian Curtis, head of UK and Ireland, Promethean.
