A light installation has been created by United Visual Artists for a Virgin Media-sponsored exhibition that celebrates a decade of broadband in the UK.
Speed of Light, which opens tomorrow, uses more than 148 lasers across four floors and five rooms of the Bargehouse, an industrial warehouse on the South Bank, to reflect both the speed at which data is sent as well as how light is used to channel information and data within fibre optic cables.
Jon James, Virgin Media’s executive director of broadband said: “We wanted to inject a bit of magic into something that’s easy to take for granted, and we think the Speed of Light installation is a fitting tribute to the amazing power of fibre optics. By using the same materials we use to deliver broadband to millions of homes in the UK, the display has a real sense of excitement and connection, and we hope people will enjoy being a part of this historical moment.”
