Skype pays $3m for access to Avistar’s video conferencing technology

Skype has paid video conferencing manufacturer Avistar Communications $3m for a worldwide non-exclusive patent licence agreement. The agreement grants rights for Skype products and services under Avistar’s patent portfolio.

Under the agreement Avistar granted to Skype for the lives of the patents, a royalty-free, irrevocable, non-exclusive licence under certain patents to make, have made (subject to limitations), use, import or export, offer to sell, sell, lease, licence, or otherwise transfer or distribute cetrain licence products.
