Film studio Fox has partnered with Panasonic in the US for a marketing campaign that will take 3D on the road. Panasonic’s fleet of 103in travelling plasmas will promote Avatar, the first film from Titanic director James Cameron in 14 years.
The screens, installed within a luxury trailer, are heading out across the US and Europe to show snippets of the film in full HD 3D.
Panasonic’s Masayuki Kozuka told Associated Press: ‘We want to get global interest rolling. For people to want to watch 3D at home, the movie has to be a blockbuster.’
The Japanese CE giant has been supplying hardware to Cameron and Fox throughout the film’s production. Film-goers will be able to see scenes from the movie in 3D on the same monitors Cameron used to edit it.
In Europe, three mobile full HD 3D theaters will visit shopping malls and other locations this autumn. Beginning with the IFA trade fair from 4 September, Panasonic will show videos including the Avatar trailer at trade shows and events across Europe.
