Primacoustic insulates Atlantic Studios with sound proof suite

Convincing potential customers of the sophisticated, high-quality abilities of modern a-v equipment and sound systems is no easy task. When confronted with the prospect of refitting an in-house demonstration suite, Atlantic Studios turned to Primacoustic to transform an average basement room into an acoustic delight. Previously, Atlantic Studio’s demo room had suffered from high levels of echo with sound bouncing off the wooden walls and floor. The room was designed to showcase the abilities of the company’s audio equipment to customers considering a home cinema installation, but the basement setting and poor acoustics made for a difficult dilemma. The high quality sound produced by a surround sound system where lost in echo filled environment.
‘The acoustic prosperities of the room were not perfect,’ comments Dilip Patel, operations director at Atlantic Studios. ‘Initially the basement room seemed ideal, as the 6x4m size and shape closely mimics the type of rooms our customers would consider converting into a home cinema. However, the hard walls and floor meant any sound, even a spoken conversation, echoed badly.’
Atlantic Studios ultimately opted to completely overhaul the room. The company selected Primacoustic Broadway acoustic panels, supplied by audio specialists Shure Distribution UK, to improve the room’s acoustic values. A selection of the foam panels have been fitted to the suite’s walls, damping the echo effect and absorbing unwanted sound.
‘It’s a simple addition, but one that really makes the difference,’ comments Patel. ‘The acoustic properties of the room have been improved dramatically and the sound is wonderful. The improvement has been so dramatic that we’re now selling the Primacoustic kit as part of a home cinema package, alongside audio and display equipment.’
