Mitsubishi Electric unveiled its latest professional-grade LCD monitor at Infocomm 2009. The MDT521S slim-bezel commercial monitor features a built-in Cat5 receiver and a dual light sensor, making it suitable for public display and digital signage applications in retail stores, airports, leisure facilities and public spaces.
Mitsubishi’s MDT521S offers both front and rear ambient light sensors to gather data on lighting conditions. The monitor has a brightness control feature that interprets the data and automatically balances image brightness for optimum performance and power consumption in all lighting conditions. This feature is especially appropriate for signage applications in public spaces where lighting conditions are subject to frequent change. In multiple-monitor installations, significant energy savings can be realised through effective energy management without compromising visibility in bright surroundings.
The MDT521S features a built-in Cat5 receiver to streamline installation, reduce the number of components required and eliminate cable clutter. Video and RS-485 serial-control signals can also be delivered over the same Cat5 cable, eliminating the need for a separate serial-control cable. Signal runs of up to 500ft are possible over a standard twisted pair cable, and up to five monitors can be daisy-chained.
The MDT521S has a narrow aluminium bezel that minimises image distortion in tiled installations; up to 25 displays can be tiled in a 5×5 configuration using its built-in processor. A frame compensation function adjusts for the width of the bezels. Its structural design allows for landscape and portrait display as well as a full-flat face-up orientation.
The MDT521S offers full 1080p resolution, a 700 cd/m2 brightness, 2000:1 contrast, picture-in-picture, picture-out-of-picture and side-by-side image configurations.
A European release date for Mitsubishi’s MDT521S is yet to be announced, but is expected later this year.
