Digital projection reigns at film fests

D-cinema and D-projectors grow in importance at this year’s film festivals. Digital projectors and digital cinema are becoming a very important format for the big screen. This year’s Cannes Film Festival will be opening with Pixar’s 3D animated movie ‘Up’, this is the first animated film, in 3D, to open Cannes.

To display this movie, digital cinema company XDC has chosen the Christie CP2000-SB projector, which features 30,000 lumens, a 2K HD (2048×1080) resolution, and a 2,100:1 contrast ratio. This will be the third year in a row that Christie has provided the technology for the festival.

Meanwhile in London, Digital Projection will supply Titan 1080p-700 projectors for this year’s 8th Annual London International Festivalof Science Fiction and Fantastic film.  The festival known as SCI-FI- London 8 takes place on the 29th April to 4th May at the Apollo Piccadilly Circus.  This year sees a change to previous years with the edition of a SCI-FI LAB, The LAB explores alternative ways of telling stories, something with fewer FX shots. Scientists will be there to talk about the current state of technology, space research, Physics breakthroughs and more. The LAB sits amidst a programme of the best science fiction and fantasy film from around the world.
