NEC, Samsung and Panasonic represent 61 per cent of the public display market, and are getting stronger, according to figures released by Meko’s DisplayCast market research service.
Bob Raikes, MD of report authors Meko commented, ‘Although advertising revenues are generally expected to be down in 2009, the digital signage segment of the market looks as though it will take a larger share of a smaller pie.
‘Although the retail sector is not rushing to increase investment at the moment, there is a desire to deliver marketing messages where they can be most effective, at the point of purchase. The efforts of the industry to develop lower cost and higher performing displays will also see sizes increase, which will help to offset a significant decline in market value. Volume will be almost flat in 2009, but that will look good alongside the
market for some other industrial goods,’ he continued.
Unit sales from 2007 to 2008 were almost flat at 231,460 and 232,639 respectively.
