The UK projector market is to fall every year until 2013, according to analysts Futuresource Consulting. Speaking at the AV100, Chris McIntyre-Brown predicted dark times ahead for projector manufacturers and resellers, citing a cluttered marketplace and rapid price erosion as the main factors.
The presentation was not all gloom and doom however, as several areas of potential growth were identified. Amongst those was the growing demand for WUXGA projectors, the continued rise of the short-throw market, the move to 1080p projection, pocket pico projectors and the 3D sector, all being areas where projection could flourish in the next few years. The digital signage industry could also offer projector sales a filip, with the news that JC Decaux is to move to 100 per cent digital advertising in the future.
Chris also highlighted other areas of growth to help soften the fall in projector sales. He directed people to look at the interactive whiteboard market, which has seen only two price drops in six years, and will receive the funding boost of the Building Schools for the Future (BSF) inititiative in the coming years.
A full report on the AV100 and photos of the event will be posted shortly, on this website and in the January issue of AV Magazine
