Thomson has bought American live TV production automation specialist Parkervision for $14m.

Parkervision makes live news production and robotic camera systems which are used extensively for both broadcast/cable news and production of training material for business television networks.

Thomson plans to integrate the Parkervision systems with its Grass Valley new production workflow systems, adding editing and storage functions to the Parkervision front ends.

‘In addition to broadening our capabilities in the digital news production space, ParkerVision technology will also extend our leadership in live production and drive organic growth for our business, says Marc Valentin, president, Thomson Broadcast & Media Solutions.
